Hi, my name is Ailis. I'd like to add my story about my navel piercing. One
day I arrived too work early, so I decided to kill an hour or two by walking
down the main street of the town I worked in. Since I worked in a tourist
building, I knew that people came from all over the world just to go down
that street that lead down to a beautiful beach. There were plenty of unique
stores & bars along the way. There is everything that you can think of down
there. 2 weeks before, I noticed a boutique that had just opened up down the
street as I came out of the tattoo parlor with a new 4 leaf clover. I seen
on the boutiques sign that in small printing it said "body piercing". I
honestly never planned on getting anything pierced that day, but along the
walk down that street I was attracted by the nice dresses that were
displayed, so I went walking in. The whole place was so nicely decorated.
There were fake flower vines all over the walls and the wallpaper matched
great. I just loved the place. It made me feel welcome and at ease. I went
toward the back of the boutique store to see where the piercing took place.
I was amazed at how nice the piercing room was compared to the sales floor.
It looked like a doctors office, but different. I can't really describe it.
I looked at the jewellery on display and became fascinated with everything
that I seen. I then heard someone behind me mumbling something, so I turned
around to see what they were attempting to say. I seen a girl hunched
forward looking as though she was about to pass out. I seen 2 other people
keeping her company and telling her to relax. I asked what had happened and
I was informed she had her belly button pierced. Then the piercer came into
the room and gave her something to drink. I asked her if that happened to
everyone and she replied, "No, not really. She just hates needles". I
suddenly felt challenged somehow. I wondered if I would feel ill or anything
of the sort would happen to me. I continued to question the piercer about
the whole procedure and how much it would cost me. I thought about it for 10
minutes at the most and went to the front desk of the store and paid for the
piercing. I went back to the piercing room and announced I had paid. I then
learned that the piercers name was Robin. I then started to think about the
lectures at university on Egyptian history I had taken. I remembered
something about the royal females piercing their navels. Before I could
think too much about it, Robin was explaining after care to me and putting
the back of my chair down. I was then looking up at the ceiling asking
question after question. I looked up to see her taking several things out of
packages. I asked to see the ring I would be having. She showed me this
steel ring with a ball. I wanted something more colourful, so I asked for
something different. After a minute or so, I choose a rainbow coloured bead.
I put my head back and Robin proceeded. After hearing all sorts of little
noises from whatever she was doing, she told me to take a deep breath in my
nose and exhale through my mouth. I felt a pinch. I wanted to get up and
look, but I was scared I would interfere with what she was doing by moving
an inch. She told me she was done and that I could get up and look. I was
amazed, it was all done and it didn't hurt as much as I expected it to. I
didn't feel dizzy or anything either. I actually went through the whole
thing. A group of people came in to look at the jewellery when the whole
procedure was taking place. I was a bit surprised to hear "Are you ok" by an
onlooker. It turns out they were watching me the whole time. I talked with
them for a minute or so while laying down and got the ok to stand up. Robin
asked me to sit up in a chair for a few minutes to make sure I would be all
right. I looked behind me and seen pictures of a mixture of piercings. I
suddenly remembered about Chad, one of my friends from school. He was drunk
one night and decided to get a piercing with his buddies. From what I was
told, the piercer he had, apparently consumed a few drinks himself. Chad had
to put up with a lot of tugging and pain to get a ring through his left
nipple. I remember him saying that he didn't regret it and that he would
feel lost without it, but wished he picked a better piercer. Even though the
end result was desired in his case, I was so glad that I hadn't thought of
him before I went through the navel piercing. I left the boutique 30 minutes
after I walked in and felt so incredibly happy with myself. The after care
is going pretty well and I can't wait to get accessories to hang as soon as
it heals completely.
