What can I say? I got my navel pierced about 3 wks ago. I was so afraid of the pain but after a deep breath and a little talk with myself in my head, my navel was pierced. I went with a friend of mine who also got her navel pierced about 1 wk earlier.
I sadly report that 3 wks later, my piercing does not look that great and I kinda regret getting my navel pierced. The problem? Well, I believe I have a low grade infection. My first mistake was that I got a barbell (very pretty with jewelry at both ends) instead of a bead ring (hoop). Second, I'm not grossly overweight but let's just say that I don't have a six pack. When I sit down, my stomach folds over the piercing. The bottom part of the barbell (the larger end) sort of dug into the piercing, leaving a large, red, puss- filled hole (crater) around the piercing. Yuck! I went back to my piercer to remove the barbell and he replaced it with a bead ring today. My piercer and I are both hoping that the crater will close a bit. I'll give it a week but after that, i'm going to have a doctor look at it and remove it if I have to. Third...I sleep on my stomach. Bad move, because it is painful to sleep on your stomach with a navel piercing and I think it also increases the risk of infection.
So, my advice? First, if you have a flabby stomach like mine, don't get your navel pierced. If you do get your navel pierced, opt for a bead ring...stay clear of the pretty barbells. Last if you are a "stomach sleeper," try sleeping on your side before you get your navel pierced. If you find yourself on your stomach in the morning...don't get your navel pierced. And one more thing...clean twice a day and salt soak your navel piercing religiously. They both make your navel feel so much better afterwards.
