Today my husband and I went to get my navel pierced at the Southside Tattoo Parlour in Pittsburgh, PA. It was something I'd been thinking about for months. We did it today as kind of a Valentine's day thing. I chose a 7/16 surgical steel ring with a rainforest jasper bead. The woman who pierced me did a really good job-- it was quick and only hurt for a minute and it's in straight. It's been kind of sore all day and it burned like hell when I cleaned it with Betadine. But I'm sure it will be worth it. We both love how it looks.
What I learned (from my own experience and others'):
-- Use only surgical steel
-- Make sure you're comfortable with the piercing establishment
-- Wear overalls the day you go
-- Body piercings and high auricular cartilage piercings should be placed in the winter to minimize complications
-- They can place a nylon cord in the piercing if you get pregnant
GOOD LUCK!!!
