Ok, so I had my first piercing when I was a mere 10 years old…. my ear lobes of course (hardcore or
what?!) but I didn’t think of getting anymore done as this had hurt and traumatised me enough at the
time!! Then as I got older I discovered the world of body modification, it both disgusted and
fascinated me at the same time, mainly because I knew that my parents didn’t really like it all
that much, so it made me more determined to find out more. By the time I got to about 16 I had
become to love them and decided it was for me - much to my parent’s disgust! I decided that a
piercing would be the better option than a tattoo. One of my friends had just got her nipple
pierced and she knew that I was wanting to get a piercing that wasn’t immediately visible and
recommended that I look into having it done. I entertained the idea for quite a while before
finally deciding to get it done. It was sort of last act of rebellion before I turned 18, plus
my mates had all got together to pay for it as an 18th birthday present so I figured why not!
My best mate Rachael came with me for moral support as I have a very bad fear of needles and a
very low pain threshold and I would have run like hell if she hadn’t been there! We got into Leeds
and I had already checked out all the piercing studios in the main city so I had already decided that
Manchester/Leeds studio was that nicest and being slightly self-conscious, I wanted a female to do
the piercing. All the people that worked there seemed friendly and didn’t seem to mind my stupid
questions! I was pretty scared so had a couple of cigs outside before I finally went in. My
hand was shaking when I was reading the form and Rachael had to practically kick me up the backside
to get my to sign the damn thing!! I handed over my money and went upstairs to the room. She told
me to take off my top half of clothes so she could mark my nipple and if I’m going to be completely
honest, that was the worst part of the whole experience for me! I’m very self-conscious so
I found it very embarrassing! She drew the two dots on either side of my nipple and asked me if
I thought it was straight, which it was. She then got me to lie down on the chair whilst she got
together all the equipment ready – she very kindly covered me up at this point! After checking
one last time that I was ok, she clamped my nipple and sprayed on the freezing stuff. She then
proceeded to insert the needle, I closed my eyes and gritted my teeth in anticipation of the pain,
but it never came! At this point I managed to look down, she inserted the bar and removed the plastic
tube – I have to admit that at this point I did swear under my breath, but the pain wasn’t totally
unbearable.
Unfortunately because I was expecting so much pain, I was concentrating more on what Sarah was
doing to my poor defenceless breast than all the aftercare instructions she had given me during
the procedure so I hadn’t taken in a word of what she had said! But luckily I was given an instruction
sheet on how to look after my piercing so all was ok! After she checked with me that I was satisfied
with the end product she put a dressing over the piercing (which hardly bled at all) and gave me a
few more helpful tips whilst I very carefully put my bra and top back on.
All in all it was a very good decision. The piercing is fantastic and the first of many!
It didn’t hurt and it looks very cute! I left the studio on kind of adrenalin high, which
was a good feeling. I just wanted to run up to people and show them but I decided that that
probably wasn’t a good idea!! After a bit Rachael said I looked a little on the green side,
but I felt fine. The only discomfort I have felt was the bumpy train ride home, that and a
stupid year seven who decided she would swing her bag which ended up breast-bound, much to
my friends amusement, needless to say I didn’t have the same reaction! I would strongly
recommend this piercing to anyone considering it! My nipple is very sensitive now, which
is a BIG plus! Make sure that you keep it extra clean and I strongly advise that the more
active of you out there who get this done, for the love of god wear some kind of dressing
over it – I’m sure you ladies catch my drift! The last thing is if I can get my nipple pierced
anyone can!
