Four days ago I was visiting my friend in Scottsdale, AZ when I decided that
I wanted to get my tongue pierced. I am 22 years old and have wanted the
piercing since I was 17, so I figured what the hell, you only live once. So
I did it. I looked in the phonebook under tattoos to find my piercer. I
found a place called Easyriders in Scottsdale, called them up to see if they
were open, and off me and my friend went. My piercers name was Dave and he
was a really cool guy, your typical piercer with a ton of piercings and
tattoos. I wasnt afraid to have it done because I had seen my friend have it
done before so I kinda knew what to expect. Dave took me back into this
small room and asked me to sit on one of those beds like they have in
doctors offices. I sat down and he asked me to stick out my tongue. He
clamped down on my tongue (which was pretty uncomfortable). He handed me a
paper towel and told me to hold it. When I asked what it was for he said it
was to catch all the blood. Ha Ha.. nothing better than a piercer with a
sense of humor! He said he was kidding and told me that I would probably
drool a bit. So after putting the clamp on my tongue, he grabbed the needle
and poked it thru my tongue without warning. I guess this was good because I
would have been nervous if I was anticipating it. He put the barbell
through, released the clamp and said, "ok, look in the mirror". Sure enough,
I was pierced. I have to be honest with you, people say it doesnt hurt, but
it does. The pain is not excrutiating, but its a definite poke! I had had my
eyebrow pierced several years before and that was virtually painless.
After getting the piercing, I immediately went to the store to buy some
Listerine. My piercer recommended the original stuff, not the minty kind. My
tongue swelled up pretty big. It was extremely hard to talk because you slur
all your words and you spit when you talk. I have been drooling a lot too,
my mouth has more saliva in it than it ever has. For the first couple of
days, my tongue was really tender, especially around the piercing. The
bottom of the barbell irritates your gums underneath your tongue, and I have
also noticed that my bottom teeth are very sensitive. If you've ever had
braces, it feels kinda like after you get your braces tightened. I am hoping
this goes away! Eating is a bitch! The first day I tried to have a
milkshake, but I couldnt suck thru a straw. I have been basically not
eating. I have had some mashed potatoes and some pudding and lots of water.
I tried eating solid foods today (my 4th day) and I had to throw it away.
You dont realize how much you use your tongue when you eat, until you can no
longer use it. When I want to get food out of my teeth, I cant use my
tongue, I must use my fingers. Right after your piercing, you cant manuver
your tongue well. I still cant stick it out all the way. Most of the
swelling has gone down, except for the area around the piercing, which is
hard to the touch. I cant wait for it to be completely healed!
And a bit of advice for those who are thinking of having it done. Do it
because you want to do it for yourself. Dont do it so that you give better
oral sex, because to be honest, Ive had oral from a guy who had it done and
it doesnt feel any better. I have also talked to guys who received oral from
a girl who had her tongue pierced and they said they didnt feel the piercing
either. So the whole "if you have one youll give better oral sex" thing, its
a myth. I got my tongue pierced because it was something that I wanted for 5
years, something I had put a lot of thought into. And I am sure as soon as
it is completely healed, I am gonna be so happy that I did it!
