I am only 16, but I am starting to fall in love with body modification. After 10 ear piercings and one tattoo, I decided to modify my ears myself by gauging the holes. But what I really wanted was my tragus. So after literally months of begging my mom, she finally gave in and took me to get it done. The place I went is one of the most highly accredited in the city. Despite all the pain I've gone through with my current modifications, I was nervous. However, the staff at this place really let me feel comfortable. While my piercer went to prepare the room, my mom and I filled out the paperwork and the owner, the girl at the counter, talked to us about anything and everything until finally my piercer told me the room was ready. Since I am a minor, my mom had to go in the room with me, although she stood in the corner as she didn't want to watch. My piercer took out every tool from their packages and explained the whole process to me, as well as what each instrument was going to do. I was still shaking, though. Finally she asked me which ear I wanted it on, and I responded with a nano-second answer 6 months in the making: "Left". She cleaned and marked my ear with this purple stuff on a toothpick. Then she had me lie down. I closed my eyes right away. She told me to breathe deep and steady. I felt it clamped and pierced, and I was in for a surprise. It didn't hurt! The sharp pinch I felt only lasted about three seconds. She told me the needle was in, and then seconds later, she told me the jewerly was in too. While she put the jewelry in, I felt slight discomfort, but nothing unbearable. I sat up again so she could put the captive bead into the ring. I will never forget the look on my face, and my new piercing, as I turned to my side and saw myself sitting on the chair in the mirror, smiling the biggest smile ever.
My piercer then asked my mom and I to watch her throw away the needles and such in a biohazard medical disposal container on the wall. I looked at the tray by the chair (which, for my procedure that required me to lie down turned into a padded table) and saw two bloody Q-tips.
After going through after-care instructions outside and paying for my piercing as well as my Provon and sea salt, we left and went and got dinner. That night it was sore, but nothing unbearable at all. I couldn't sleep on it for about a week, but I do now with no problem. The painful thing is cleaning it (as well as that being a difficult task in general), and recently a small lump has appeared above it which I have been informed will disappear with extra cleaning care. But I love it. Definitely recommend it to anyone, it's original yet modest....
